About Rev. Desmond Austin
Rev. Desmond Austin is a respected Christian leader, educator, pastor, and mentor who has faithfully served the Kingdom of God for more than four decades. He currently serves as the National Director of the Open Bible Standard Churches of Trinidad and Tobago and has been the Senior Pastor of the Tunapuna Open Bible Standard Church since 1988.
Having accepted Christ in 1974, Rev. Austin has dedicated his life to ministry, leadership development, theological education, community transformation, and strengthening the Church locally, regionally, and internationally. His ministry has focused on training pastors and leaders, mentoring young ministers, marriage and family counselling, and partnering with national institutions to promote the social and spiritual well-being of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
Rev. Austin has served in numerous influential leadership positions throughout the Caribbean evangelical community. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the Global Church Network and Advisor to the Board of the Evangelical Alliance of the Caribbean. He previously served as Chairman of the Evangelical Alliance of the Caribbean and as a Member-at-Large on the International Council of the World Evangelical Alliance. Since 2008, he has also served as President of the Trinidad and Tobago Council of Evangelical Churches. A passionate educator, Rev. Austin has taught at the Open Bible Institute of Theology since 1983, lecturing in areas such as Biblical Theology, Leadership, Church History, Missions, Marriage and Family, Comparative Religion, and Spiritual Life Principles. His commitment to theological education and leadership development has impacted countless ministers and believers throughout the Caribbean and beyond.
Rev. Austin holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Pastoral Studies from the Caribbean College of the Bible, completed Master’s studies in Family Life Education at Oasis University, and earned a Doctor of Divinity from the Canadian International Chaplaincy Association. Rev. Austin has been married to Carol Austin since 1987, and they have one son. Known for his humility, wisdom, and passion for developing leaders, Rev. Austin remains committed to
equipping believers to maximize their God-given potential and to advancing God’s Kingdom throughout the nations. His life and ministry continue to reflect a deep love for God, family, the Church, and the people he serves.
About the Role
The National Elder-Director is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Organization. He casts visions, inspires, influences and partners with the national body to accomplish the purpose and mission of the organization. He is accountable to the National Board and represents the Organization on international, regional, and national matters where applicable.
