The Church on the Rock Choir traces its beginnings back to 1998, when a passionate group of young people came together with a shared love for worship and ministry. Under the leadership of Julia Baptiste, affectionately known as “Aunty Julia,” the wife of the Youth Pastor at the time, the choir was launched with vision, dedication, and a deep desire to use music as a vessel for God’s glory.
From its inception, the choir ministered with passion, energy, and excellence. One of the choir’s memorable early presentations was the song “I’ve Gone,” which was rendered entirely a cappella and left a lasting impact on many who heard it. Alongside the choir’s growth and development, the ministry was blessed with the support of Pjay Harper, a gifted musician and vocal coach, as well as Andre Gordon, a talented keyboardist with a heart for ministry. Together, their musical guidance, mentorship, and dedication helped shape the choir’s vocal discipline, sound, confidence, and musical excellence during its formative years.
As the ministry continued to flourish, the choir grew both spiritually and numerically, eventually expanding to nearly 45 young people passionately ministering through song.
Around 2001, the Church on the Rock Choir participated in its first Concert of Choirs. What initially began as a new opportunity quickly became a defining part of the choir’s journey. Concert of Choirs challenged the group to grow in excellence, creativity, discipline, and unity, helping to shape the identity and sound that continues to define the choir today.
Over the years, the choir evolved from being solely a youth choir into a vibrant multigenerational ministry. Today, the choir includes members ranging from teenagers to individuals in their seventies and eighties, beautifully reflecting the unity and diversity of the church family across generations.
The choir has also been deeply blessed by the unwavering support, encouragement, and leadership of Pastor Benjamin Agard and Sis. Kate Agard, whose love for ministry and commitment to the church family have helped create an environment where the choir could continue to grow, serve, and minister effectively throughout the years.
Currently led by Crystal Alexander-Phillip, who herself was mentored and influenced under the leadership of Julia Baptiste and the musical guidance of both Pjay Harper and Andre Gordon, the choir continues to carry forward the legacy established decades ago while embracing fresh vision and continued growth for the future.
As the Church on the Rock Choir prepares for Concert of Choirs 2026, the ministry continues to stand as a testimony of God’s faithfulness, perseverance, and grace. Through every season, the choir has remained committed to worship, excellence, and ministry.
The Church on the Rock Choir remains deeply grateful for the leaders who have invested over the years, for the unwavering support of its pastors and congregation, and above all, for God’s sustaining hand throughout the journey. More than just a choir, the Church on the Rock Choir is a legacy of worship, unity, and ministry – and the journey continues.
